The magical city of Istanbul, now the largest city in Europe, provides modern tools that for both road and sea transport. Apart from the traditional taxi, upon arrival you will have the option to use the Bus, Minibus, Metro, Metrobus, Seabus, Finiculars, Tramcar, Trains, Steamboat, Sea Motors, Helicopters, Yellow minibus and Sea Taxis to access all the fun.
Istanbul's transport system can be accessed using a variety of different payment options. If you are not a resident of Istanbul, you can still access all types of transportation and may receive a maximum of up to 10 transitions with the "ELECTRONIC CARD". You can also purchase an ISTANBULKART card that allows you to refill and use the money available as you go. The AKBIL card is also available providing discounted travel for specific riders.

ISTANBULKART FEE: 6 TL

After paying an initial fee of 6 TL you will need to add the amount desired on to the card at BILETMATIK machine, which can be found in and around stations. If you run out, you can continue to refill as you go.
This card grants access to:
Bus - Metrobus - Metro - Steamboat - Sea Motor - Seabus - Funicular - Tramcar

ELECTRONIC CARD FEES:
The Electronic Card allows you to purchase a specific number of ‘passes’ through certain transport systems. Ranging from 1 - 10, see the prices below:
* Single Pass Ticket: 4 TL
* Two Pass Ticket: 7 TL
* Three Pass Ticket: 10 TL
* Five Pass Ticket: 15 TL
* Ten Pass Ticket: 28 TL

AKBIL CARD FEE: 6 TL
The AKBIL card is very easy to use and allows access with a touch-pass. Your photo and your information are located on the AKBIL for identification purposes. The advantage of this card is that it provides “discount transportation”.
Students and persons over 60 years old can use all vehicles with AKBIL for only 1.10 TL

You can install your money on AKBIL or ISTANBULKART at 800 points in İstanbul (Minimum 1TL - Maximum 150TL)

BUS
The Bus service in Istanbul is provided by IETT (by the municipality) and Ozel Halk Otobusleri (by a private company). It is important to know that Istanbul buses come in different colors. They can be in green (environment friendly), purple, yellow (furnished specially for the disabled people), and turquoise (run by private companies). Do not be confused by this colorful touch.
Istanbul has over 11,752 Bus Stop.
You can access all buses with your AKBIL, ELEKTRONIKKART and ISTANBULKART.
You cannot pay cash on buses!

METROBUS
The Metrobus is a public transport option that combines the concept of the bus and the subway; Rubber wheels work within its allocated lane. These are vehicles with more passenger capacity than the standard bus, providing more comfort and a quicker ride; there is no traffic in their own lane! Working between Buyukcekmece (European Side) and Kadikoy (Asian side).
You can access all of the metrobuses with your AKBIL, ELEKTRONIKKART and ISTANBULKART.
You cannot pay cash on metrobuses!

Metrobus

MINIBUS
The minibus operates as a shared taxi. They have their own set of routes, as well as stops available. However it is very common for you to hail one of them as you do for a taxi. These Minibuses have approximately 150 lines and over 7 thousand minibuses available to carry passengers in excess of 3 million a day in Istanbul.
They will not accept any form of payment other than cash.

FUNICULAR
The Funicular is an underground express train that travels between Taksim Square and Sisli Mecidekoy station. With 400 trips per day, this Funicular transports up to 30,000 people a day between the hours of 06:15 and 00:00. Sisli - Mecidekoy is a major transport hub where passengers can access, a taxi, bus, Metrobus, metro, minibus, and funicular. A 5-minute ride will take you to the historic Taksim area where you can explore the famous Istiklal St. and Gezi Park.
You can access the Funicular with your AKBIL, ELEKTRONIKKART and ISTANBULKART.
You can also gain access with a “JETON” token from a JETONMATIK machine

METRO
Metro stations are marked with the letter M in blue and red colors.
Currently there is extensive work going on to extend the coverage of the metro system. The world’s first intercontinental tube project, Marmaray tunnel connects Europe and Asia through a tube beneath the Bosphorus Strait.
You can access the metro with your AKBIL, ELEKTRONIKKART or ISTANBULKART.
You can also access Metro by purchasing a “JETON” token from the JETONMATIK.

TRAMCAR
The nostalgic and modern tramcars provide a classic trip through the streets of Istanbul.

Yellow minibus
The Yellow Minibuses provide a quick ride to the lively centers of Istanbul, making it easier to catch a taxi.
Sample destinations include: TAKSIM, YESILKOY, BAKIRKOY, CEVIZLIBAG, BESIKTAS, AKSARAY, TOPKAPI, EMINONU, FLORYA
They only accept cash.
Prices change according to the line.

VAPUR / STEAMBOAT
The Vapur is available at 34 docks located on both the Bosphorus and Marmara Sea. You can access this steamboat every 15 minutes with your AKBIL, ELEKTRONIKKART or ISTANBULKART.
You can also access the Seabus by purchasing a “JETON” token from the JETONMATIK machine located at the dock.

SEA BUS
IDO, Istanbul’s Fast Ferry and Sea Bus Company offers visitors and locals alike probably the most relaxing and quickest method of transportation available in Istanbul. Whether you want to go up and down the Bosphorus, travel between the European and Asian shores, or make a short trip to the Princes’ Islands, they have a suitable and cheap solution for you.
For inner-city lines you don’t need to make reservations. To get on board, you can either buy a token (JETON) at the pier, or use your AKBIL. The only exception is the Bosphorus Tour (by Night), for which you cannot use your AKBIL and need to pay cash to obtain a ticket.
You can also access the Sea bus with your ISTANBULKART.
